I’m totally mobile now, I can now read and post to newsgroups, especially uk.telecom.mobile on the N800 using PAN.

You’ll have to add a few repositories and use xterm to install.
First using the Application Manager add the Maemo Hackers (mistral) and Maemo Extras (bora) repositories.

Now with the required extra repositories added open xterm and run the following commands:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install hildon-libs0
apt-get install pan
Now that should be it, PAN should be in the Extras folder.
For news servers just use your ISP’s, but if like me you are with sky broadband you may need to use a free provider like news.aioe.org.

this looks awsem man, i have to get myself a n800 or n810
Just tried these steps today on my N800 running OS2008 v5.2008-43-7 and it failed at the command: apt-get install hildon-libs0
Error message is:
“Package hildon-libs0 is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source”
If I ignore the hildon-libs0 installation error, and try to install the newsreader using “apt-get install pan” I get this:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pan: Depends: hildon-libs0 (>= 0.12.17-1) but it is not installable
Depends: libdbus-1-2 (>= 0.61) but it is not installable
