Psiloc have finally updated Xelnex for E71 users to allow you to record voice notes whenever you want by pressing ’shift’ + ‘*’.

I updated the N96 firmware to the latest v11 the other night and was all set to have to reinstall all my applications like I have to with the E71 and N95 8GB, but I hit a big snag. You don’t have to reinstall all your apps again, the firmware update doesn’t effect anything you have on the phone including apps, contacts, calendar, settings’ etc…

Now this is a Joy from Nokia and I so want it on all my phones, after spending 4hrs installing everything back onto my E71 last night after updating its firmware.

I went ahead and updated to the latest firmware on my E71 last night and to be honest can’t really see much difference?

Its running a bit faster, but that might just be cos its a clean install. I’ve rebranded the 3 firmware to Euro1 and I’m able to select GSM Only in poor signal areas, but apart from that nothing else.

One pain in the backside is that I can’t install unsigned apps anymore, but I’ve requested a developer certificate and hope to get that soon. OpenSigned isn’t everything its cracked up to be and out of 4 unsigned apps I tried to sign through it last night only 2 passed the process.

I regularly check the Download! application on my phones to see if Nokia add anything new and noticed Birdstep SmartConnect.

During the installation a noticed a message about this version being for selected E-Series phones only, what this actually meant was its FREE for my E71

So what does SmartConnect do then? Well instead of having to connect manually to 3G connection and Wifi connections separately, you can add all your 3G and Wifi connections into a group and have just one data connection that all apps on your phone can refer to. You can set the priority of the connections as well, which is handy if your mostly mobile and occasionally use Wifi, well it is for me.

Birdstep SmartConnect is very similar to Psiloc Connect apart from Birdstep one is FREE.

I love OVI Sync on all my phones for syncing Contacts and Calendar entries, but its a pain you can only manually sync. Well no more, welcome Swim from the Bergamot Project.

I’d originally downloaded v0.40 last week and removed as it kept syncing every 30mins minutes, no matter what sync interval I entered.

The new Swim v0.41 fixes this problem and I’ve got automatic syncing on the E71 and N95 8GB working great.

UPDATE 14/11/08 21:00hrs: Thanks to @arjun my Indian friend for pointing out a new feature in the new beta, you can now send voice messages in chat.

I got an email this morning from Nokia telling me I had new firmware for my Nokia. The email didn’t tell me what phone it was, but I realised the email come from MyNokia and I have the N95 8GB registered with them as my main phone, so off I went to the Nokia Software Checker and realised the 3UK Firmware has been updated to v30.0.018.

I’m currently running Euro1 Firmware v30.0.018 on my rebranded 3UK N95 8GB, but I’m thinking of switching back to the 3 Firmware, as its strange this update comes on the same day 3 announce the Revolution (INQ Phone) and the facebook/skype/Last.fm software for it.

Hoping all 3 users will get the chance of a new Facebook/skype application?

Anyway, if you have a 3UK N95 8GB I’d def recommend updating the firmware.

As part of my N96 Challenge I was sent the latest Nokia viNe application version 1.0 today and I’m here to say its fast and its cool. They have still to send me the online widget to go with the Nokia viNe application, but the Nokia viNe mobile application works great in the N96, N95 8GB and even the E71. I had my reservations about the application when I first got the N96 with Nokia viNe v0.96 installed on it and I slated it for being slow and crashing constantly, but this new version 1.0 is just everything we’d hoped for from Nokia.

When you first run the application after installing, it will ask you for your Nokia Account username/password and then your Sportstracker username/password, yipee Nokia are combining everything together. Hopefully one username/password for all Nokia applications/services

Honest Nokia viNe is going to ROCK!

If you’re going to install and try out nAlertMe by Samir I’d advise not doing it in a quiet office like I did today. As the piercing alert sounded, you’ve never seen the gerrymoth move so quick in your life.

PS: nAlertMe uses the Accelerometer in you mobile phone, so this doesn’t work on the E71. Tested working on the N95 8GB.

Bloggers have been posting pictures and giving details of the pre-production Nokia N63’s they have been given after the official launch this morning at 9am, 12th November 2008.

When Nokia Betalabs released FriendView last week I was quick to download, install and eager to try out, but I hit a slight problem with HTTP Timeouts over 3G connection only (connects and works great over wifi). I quickly emailed Nokia Betalabs team and got a even quicker reply stating there must be a problem with my network (3UK) as the FriendView application only uses http and if I could access the website from my phone I must be able to access via the application.

So thinking to myself 3UK must be blocking the http address or the port maybe, I rushed to phone and email 3 to explain the problem. 6 days later and I’m still waiting from a response as a normal 3 customer, but luckily I have online friends on Twitter & Jaiku who know people in 3 directly and they have come back to be with the official response from 3 Technical Support - “We are not blocking anything which would stop the Nokia FriendView application from working, but remember its a beta application”.

Great, Nokia say its 3UK and 3UK say its Nokia.

THE BLAME GAME

I’ve been talking with other Nokia FirendView users who are on T-Mobile and 02 Networks in the UK and they don’t seem to be having any problems accessing this BETA application using the same Nokia E71, N95 and n96 mobile phones that I have been trying, so I’m still of the opinion its a 3UK Network problem.

So it looks like FriendView is going to be a wifi only application for 3UK customer for awhile then!

Opera Mini have released Beta 4.2 which has updates for syncing notes, improved RTSP video handling and skins is back

I’ve tried to find a decent calculator for the E71, but can’t find a good scientific one as good as the layout and feel of MTVOID. The Nokia BetaLabs guys working on Nokia Enhanced Calculator need to look and maybe talk to the MTVOID Team?

LCG Slick has been updated again to fixed problems some users experienced with MSN. Update direct from the program or download from HERE.

Just installed this free version of GSpaceMobile onto the E71 to provide additional 7GB of online storage. The free version only allows file transfers between your phone and gmail box of max 1MB, but the full version doesn’t. I’ve also added the Firefox extension Gspace which will allow me to quickly add files from the PC and download easily later on from the phone.
